The Advisory Body to the Trustees
In 2000, the DETR published a government report 'Modernising Trusts Ports - a Guide to Good Governance'. This required trust ports to improve the openness and accountability with which they conducted their business. GHT responded by promoting a new Harbour Revision Order (the Gloucester Harbour Revision (Constitution) Order 2002) which came into force in 2002 and made significant changes to its constitution. This also required the setting up of an Advisory Body to underpin the work of the Trustees and provide an effective link with stakeholders.
The aim of the Advisory Body is to bring together representatives of bodies who use, operate in or have an interest in the Gloucester Harbour within a framework which enables them to consider matters substantially affecting the management, maintenance, improvement, conservation or regulation of the Gloucester Harbour and its navigation. However, the Trustees own no land, nor operate any port installations and the harbour is in a predominantly rural location with few settlements or other interests which may be affected by the day-to-day activities of GHT
At present the Advisory Body meets twice a year, generally in May and November and discusses matters of mutual interest. Meetings are generally attended by representatives of local organisations such as sailing clubs and other recreational users, other local maritime interests, fishery interests and local councils.
