Mariners are advised that with effect from 1st August 1999 communications between all vessels navigating within the Gloucester Harbour and Sharpness Radio should be conducted on vhf channel 13. It is anticipated that this channel will be less susceptible to interference, whilst providing more effective coverage of the Harbour.
Vessels are requested to make use of channel 13 whenever possible, although channel 17 will continue to be monitored and will remain available for communications during the foreseeable future.
To avoid confusion and assist staff at Sharpness Pierhead, vessels are requested to indicate the channel being used during their initial call, e.g. "Sharpness Radio this is (vessel's name) - channel 13".
